The war history of Veliky Novgorod is full of impressive events. During centuries novgorodians made a major contribution to defend boarders of their land and perform soldier’s duty outside the country. The Military Glory of Novgorod Land was made up from different components and the most important were personal heroism and courage of the defenders of the native land.
The Hall of Military Glory was opened in Veliky Novgorod on January 20th, 2012. Its location was chosen on purpose. It is situated near the monument of medieval fortification – the rampart of the Roundabout city, and not too far from Stele. The Exposition reproduces a thousand-year history of participation of Novgorodians in protection of their city and motherland. One of the important tasks of the Hall is to tell in details the stories of sixteen bás-reliefs, placed near the Stele. They cover the main moments of war past of Novgorod land. Bás-reliefs are situated on four mini-steles, each of them corresponds to the era in the history of Russia: period of early Rus, Moscow kingdom, Russian Empire and modern history.
Four basic eras of heroic glory of novgorodians are reflected in permanent exposition and represented in wax figures of uniformed warriors of different centuries.
