Orthodox pilgrims from all over of Russia visit Veliky Novgorod to see the Christian relics which have been worshipped since the old times. Walls of Novgorod temples breathe the wisdom of centuries and the wonder-making icons stream God’s grace.
1. St. Varlaam Convent of the Transfiguration of Our Savior in the village of Khoutyn, 12th c. - The convent is situated in the village of Khoutyn in 10 km from Veliky Novgorod. You can get there by bus №121 (timetable). There is a hostel for pilgrims.
2. St. Nicholas Convent in the village of Vyazhishchi, 14th c. - The convent is located 12 km to the northwest of Novgorod next to a hot spring. According to legend, in the late 14th century, several monks settled here, but the local noble did not want them to be such close neighbors.
3. St. Michael Klopsky Monastery of the Holy Trinity, 15th c. - 23 km south of Veliky Novgorod, west of the Ilmen lake, there is St. Michael Monastery of the Holy Trinity right at the Veryazha river.
