Located on the banks of Lake Myachino and the VolkhovRiver, at St. George Monastery there is an open-air museum of wooden architecture Vitoslavlitsy.  This is one of the most picturesque places in the Novgorod region. Izbas (village houses), chapels and churches form streets like those in old Russian villages. Restorers managed to preserve the unique works of Novgorodian carpenters. The buildings on display are so magnificent that they need no introduction. To get to know how Russian people lived many years ago, one must visit any of the izbas.

Vitoslavlitsy is famed for folk and trade festivals, Christmas fortune-telling and the International Bell Ringing Festival is annually held there.

Farm Yard in Vitoslavlitsy

In 2013 an interactive exhibition Farm Yard was opened in the Museum of Wooden Architecture. It is located in the south-east area of the museum where horses and goats, those domestic animals that have always been in the peasant farm, are kept.

The interactive exhibition Farm Yard will be placed near a barn from Iversky Monastery. A stable, which was recently restored, from Sushilovo village of Borovichi district is the central part of the show. There are two stalls with two horses in the stable.

Goat shed is located close to the stable where three goats live. On the ground of Farm Yard horses and goats’ pens were built for the demonstrative show.

In the future they plan to build some more buildings for ammunition and harnesses; hay and carriage sheds.

Every day animal care’s demonstrative master class are held at the exhibition. You can learn how to clean animals, how to bridle, to saddle and to harness a horse, how to clean hooves and to shoe horses, how to take care of goats, how to milk a goat, how to comb hair and others.

Visitors will have opportunity to take a photo with animals, ride the horse in the territory of the interactive exhibition Farm Yard.

Horse riding trips with cartage (a vehicle, a cart, a sleigh and others) are held by advance agreement. In winter period riding in a sleigh will be held permanently.
