The exhibition is housed in the building of former Administrative Offices. Birch bark letters, devices, handicraft items, home utensils, and military equipment introduce ancient Russia. On display, there are the most ancient Russian musical instruments, draughts and chess pieces, and children toys, which have survived only in Veliky Novgorod. Fragments of wooden pavements, which appeared in Novgorod long before they were laid in Paris or London, are also presented in the exposition.

On the second floor you can see Russian Icon of 11th - 19th Centuries in the Collection of Novgorod State Museum.
