After the amalgamation of two libraries - the Novgorod regional children's library (founded in 1959) and the Novgorod regional youth library (founded in 1969) the Library Center Chitay-Gorod has started its own history since 1996. The library Chitay-Gorod is a municipal public library, provides with equal free access to the achievements of world culture, contributes to the development of the personality, socialization and job orientation of the young readers and gives methodological assistance to adult users occupied with training, education and entertainment for children and young people. Today the library centre Chitay-Gorod is divided into several areas and located in different parts of the city. The library centre for children and youth Chitay-Gorod consists of 4 areas-library:

Children’s library department serves children up to 10 years, parents, tutors and teachers. Service of readers is carried out by the use of the lending library.
