In the short run a new free e-application “Mobile guide to Veliky Novgorod” is being available on www.visitnovgorod.com, the information web-portal of MAI “Tourism Development Centre “Red Izba”. Just to remember, though the application is still under reconstruction, two other similar projects have already been successfully carried out. It is a mobile event guide to the International Convention “The 29th Hanseatic Days of the New Time” held in Veliky Novgorod in late June, 2009 and a mobile event guide to the celebration of the 1150th anniversary of the city.
The e – guide “Mobile guide to Veliky Novgorod” compatible with smartphones running Windows Mobile operating system is going to be available at VisitNovgorod.com. The light version of the application is going to be compatible with even simple mobile phones.
For the first time the navigation program is about foot routes around the city, based on the Navigation Satellite System, the possibility to create individual tours, interactive maps accompanied with detailed information on the city infrastructure and all the leading tourist sights. The e – guide both helps any tourist to see the city and provides with advice on the best cafe or restaurant, informing about a menu and an average bill.
Besides there are social communication features that keep getting more popular. The “Mobile guide” helps to find new friends, ask out for a date at a certain venue, and trace a person’s location in case he/she is in the navigation system.
