The first International Tourism Film Festival “Kitovras-2010”

On September 17-18, 2010 Veliky Novgorod - the Birthplace of Russia –hosts the Russia’s first International Tourism Festival «Kitovras-2010» and the first International Tourism Film Academy.  They are organized by Tourism Office of Veliky Novgorod, Non-profit Partnership and Red Izba Tourism Development Centre, the Municipal Autonomous Institution.

The Non-profit Partnership “Tourism Office of Veliky Novgorod” has been engaged in tourism, culture, mass media and publishing for nine years already and operates as an information, marketing and coordinating centre. Due to the unique experience and great professional background, the tourism office has been acting as a role-model for other regions of Russia for seven years.

The International festival has been named after kitovras (‘centaur’), the famous creature from the Greek mythology who was known for enormous knowledge and advised Solomon the King on constructing the temple of the Wisdom.  On the Roman bronze doors to the main entrance of the Cathedral of St. Sophia the Wisdom of God – the oldest stone temple in Russia (1045 – 1050) the Kitovras is depicted. The doors were wrought in Magdeburg, Germany in the 12th c. as to symbolize a part of Europe in the birthplace of Russia.

Administrations from regions of the Russian Federation, consulates general in the Russian Federation, national tourism offices, and private companies from the Russian Federation and abroad are taking part in the Festival.

The Festival ‘Kitovras-2010’ is held under the auspices of the International Committee of Tourism Film CIFFT (Comité International des Festivals du Film Touristique) (Vienna, Austria) and patronized by the Russian Cultural Foundation and the Russian Union of Travel Industry. The festival program promises certain new products by Russian and foreign film-making industry in the sphere of tourism.

The International Jury Board includes: KR Alexander V. Kammel, the director of CIFFT (Viena, Austria); Alla Osipova, the producer (Veliky Novgorod, Russia); Galina Frolova, a film critic, a member of the Latvian Cinema Union (Riga, Latvia); authors of TV programs and representatives of international theme TV channels, producers of Internet tourism television.

There is a special festival nomination “Following the routes of the medieval Hansa”, dedicated to promoting the cultural and tourism heritage of the cities of Hansa.

The Tourism Film Academy involves seminars by experts from Austria, Spain, Latvia, Poland and Russia who are going to present the audio-visual artwork in its creative and marketing-oriented presentation.

A GRAND PRIX will be awarded to the Festival’s best film.  Prizes will also be given to films of specific categories.  Apart from those awards a special People’s Choice Award will be given; this award is to be decided by Internet voting on VisitNovgorod.com. 

The first International Tourism Film Academy is also being held as part of the festival.
