St. Michael Monastery of the Holy Trinity in the village of Kloptsy, 15th c.
23 km south of Veliky Novgorod, west of the Ilmen lake, there is St. Michael Monastery of the Holy Trinity right at the Veryazha river. The early history of the monastery is connected with the name of St. Michael Klopsky who, being the unknown at the age of 60ish at that time, arrived at the Monastery in the village of Kloptsy (near Veliky Novgorod) on June 23, 1408 and lived there for the next 44 years in praying and working a number of miracles, thus, bringing fame to the monastery. Only after years and years it turned out to the Novgorodians that the saint was the son of the great prince Simeon the Proud.
Built in 1569, the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity is now the main building of the monastery. Due to its grand architecture and wonderful wall-painting of 18th - 19th cc., the cathedral is given the certain pride of place in the art of building of ancient Novgorod.
