The church got world-wide renown not only for its architectural merits, but also for the unique frescos of 1363. There were about 200 walls-paintings in the church. At the very beginning of World War II the monument was destroyed. It was restored by Leonid Krasnorechyev and Ninel Kuzmina, who thus, received the State Award of the Russian Federation. The restoration of the unique frescoes of the church is still being carried out by Freska Ltd. Some of the them have already been put up back onto the walls. The unique 15th century icons of the church are exhibited in the exposition of icon painting in the Kremlin.
